These blogs will be reflections on my activities and thoughts during the last semester of a fashion and textile degree course I have been studying for three years
Diary entry blog in progress for ‘Monday’: this will be a narrative journey in embroidery from Monday to Friday, recording the highs and lows of each working day on deconstructed donated work shirts.
Mondays are always busy, readjusting to the work schedule again after the weekend.
I am just preparing ideas around images and reflections that might make an interesting visual and a biography of what my husband’s work schedule is like, as he works globally and in the UK.
Each day will be different, as each day brings something new for him to work through, a new challenge. These challenges and the different world locations he works with, will hopefully be reflected across the five shirts.
Aspects of time will also be looked at as meetings are often held globally that might mean someone is talking in the evening whilst others are just having breakfast.
The techniques of dip dyeing, silk screen printing and embroidery will hopefully help the narrative come alive for the viewer. I hope to improve my dye, print and embroidery practice on cloth in order to become a better textile artist and learn skills that I might pass on as a teacher of art and design hopefully in the future.
